World of Winners: 500,000 Free Tickets to Boost Tourism

Hong Kong is offering 500,000 round-trip airline tickets to travelers as part of its new tourism campaign “World of Winners”. The giveaways will start in March, with Southeast Asia and mainland China markets first, followed by other markets including the US in May.

500,000 plane tickets will be given away over the course of three months. The first batch is being given out starting March 1 by participating airlines: Cathay Pacific, HK Express, and Hong Kong Airlines. Eligible residents must be over 18 years of age.

The initiative is designed to help rejuvenate Hong Kong’s tourism industry. It is expected to have a positive impact on the region’s economy, with an influx of travelers that will help to boost hospitality businesses.

Here’s how the airport authority’s chairman describes the promotion:

“We bought the tickets from the airlines during the most difficult time under the pandemic, and that is a testament to our confidence in the future of Hong Kong’s aviation industry. The campaign will generate a multiplier effect on boosting air traffic and enormous publicity for Hong Kong. Since the relaxation of travel restrictions and quarantine requirements for inbound travellers last year, passenger traffic at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) has started to pick up, especially in the last quarter. We also have had a good start of 2023 with the resumption of normal travel with the Mainland. HKIA has always been a major international aviation hub. We are confident that passenger traffic will continue to rise.”

Jack So, Chairman of Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK)

It could also be seen as a chance for citizens to reconnect with their family and friends who may be living in a different country. Residents who are unable to take advantage of this offer can also sell their tickets to others who are more likely to use them.
