Emirates Adding Second Canadian Destination: Daily Flights to Montreal (Starting July 2023)

by | Apr 24, 2023

Emirates is launching daily flights to Montreal, making the city the airline’s second gateway in Canada. This comes on the heels of its previous increase in capacity to go daily to Toronto earlier this month.

Emirates Grows in Canada With Montreal Flights

Emirates has announced that it will launch flights to Montréal–Trudeau International Airport (YUL). The new service will commence on July 5 in the wake of the new bilateral air transport agreement between Canada and the United Arab Emirates, which has increased flight frequencies between the two nations by 50%, paving the way for both countries to further enhance their aviation sectors.

As a major metropolitan center and Canada’s second-largest city, Montreal is a significant addition to Emirates’ global network, which already spans over 130 destinations across more than 70 countries and territories.

The service is timed so passengers can connect seamlessly to the airline’s extensive network in Dubai International Airport (DXB). The daily flights between Dubai and Montreal will operate as EK243/244 with a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft in the following schedule:

Starting July 5, 2023EK243: departing DXB at 2:30, arriving YUL at 8:00
EK244: departing YUL at 10:20, arriving DXB at 6:30 (next day)
Starting November 5, 2023EK243: departing DXB at 2:30, arriving YUL at 7:15
EK244: departing YUL at 9:30, arriving DXB at 6:40 (next day)
Starting March 10, 2024EK243: departing DXB at 2:30, arriving YUL at 8:00
EK244: departing YUL at 10:20, arriving DXB at 6:30 (next day)

The Emirates Boeing 777-300ER features a three-class configuration with eight First Class suites, 42 lie-flat seats in Business Class, and 304 seats in Economy Class.

Emirates has been serving Toronto since 2007, operating its flagship A380 service on the Dubai-Toronto route since 2009. Starting this month, Emirates serves Toronto with a daily A380 service in an increase in capacity.

With the addition of Montreal, the airline will now offer passengers two points of access in Canada and a total of 18 destinations across the Americas, including 12 U.S. cities, and four destinations in Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina.

Strengthening Partnership with Air Canada

Air Canada and Emirates have a codeshare agreement despite Air Canada’s membership in Star Alliance (which Emirates is not a part of). The partnership was announced in December 2022 and has significantly broadened both airlines’ networks.

The partnership means that both airlines are leveraging their networks to add connectivity and options for passengers. It’s also great news for frequent flyers, with Aeroplan members able to redeem miles to use on Emirates. Emirates Skywards members can also earn miles on eligible Air Canada flights and redeem them for reward tickets across Air Canada’s network.

With the new service to Montreal, Emirates and Air Canada are offering a lot of capacity between Canada and Dubai:

  • Both Emirates and Air Canada fly daily between Toronto and Dubai, Emirates with an A380 while Air Canada uses a Boeing 787-9
  • Air Canada has added a 4x weekly flight between Vancouver and Dubai, also with a Boeing 787-9
  • Now Emirates is adding daily service between Montreal and Dubai utilizing a Boeing 777-300ER

In addition to the flights to Dubai, Etihad flies daily to Toronto from Abu Dhabi contributing additional capacity between Canada and the United Arab Emirates.

Bottom Line

Emirates is launching daily flights to Montreal, its second gateway in Canada, on July 5, 2023. The route is the latest expansion in flight capacity and options for travelers between Canada and the UAE following the new, expanded bilateral air agreement between the countries. The new flight will provide seamless connections to Dubai and beyond while building on Emirates’ strengthened partnership with Air Canada.
