Norse Atlantic, the Norway-based LCC that rose from the ashes of Norwegian’s pre-pandemic long-haul operation, is growing in London Gatwick. The airline is set to add four new US destinations to its summer schedule from the airport this year as it eyes continued strong recreational travel demand.

Norse Adds Transatlantic Flights from Gatwick
Norse UK is adding four new destinations from London Gatwick in summer 2023. That will make it the #1 Gatwick to U.S. transatlantic operator according to the announcement.
The new destinations are Los Angeles (LAX), San Francisco (SFO), Washington, D.C. (IAD), and Boston (BOS). Norse Atlantic already flies to New York JFK and previously announced plans to add Orlando and Fort Lauderdale/Miami.
- London to Washington, D.C. will launch on 1st June operating up to six flights a week. Return fares in Economy start from £430 (~$518 USD) including taxes.
- London to Los Angeles will launch on 30th June operating daily. Return fares in Economy start from £430 (~$518 USD) including taxes.
- London to San Francisco will launch on 1st July operating three times a week. Return fares in Economy start from £410 (~$494 USD) including taxes.
- London to Boston will launch on 2nd September operating five times a week. Return fares in Economy start from £370 (~$445 USD) including taxes.
The airline hopes to capitalize on the post-pandemic surge in travel demand by offering transatlantic flights at budget rates, after securing cheap leases on Dreamliner 787s during the pandemic. When it adds the new destinations later in the summer, it will serve more US cities than any other airline flying from Gatwick.
Travel Returns in Full Force
Passenger demand for travel has surged over the last 12 months and is expected to recover to pre-pandemic levels on most routes in 2023.
This trend is being seen at Norse Atlantic and the airline is optimistic about demand in the upcoming summer season.
“This marks an important day for the UK aviation industry and for consumers as we celebrate serving more destinations to the US from London Gatwick this summer than any other airline. The addition of direct flights to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington, D.C. and Boston to our already popular New York, Orlando and Fort Lauderdale/Miami services will provide greater choice and value for consumers.
The Norse team are disruptors. We look forward to making our unbeatable product available to even more customers this summer, as we build the industry’s first successful low cost long haul airline.
We have made a significant investment in our UK airline, based at Gatwick Airport, and now employ over 370 colleagues at our London base. I am very pleased that we are fulfilling our pledge to create competition in the transatlantic market that will benefit consumers, stimulate business travel and lead to job creation on both sides of the Atlantic.”
Bjorn Tore Larsen, CEO Norse Atlantic Airways
Norse Atlantic’s new routes are a welcome addition for London Gatwick. Soon-to-be SkyTeam member Virgin Atlantic stopped transatlantic flying from Gatwick during the pandemic. Of course, Norse Atlantic’s “predecessor” Norwegian Air, also failed, leaving a gap in the market for those who prefer flights from Gatwick to the busy British Airways hub at Heathrow.
Norse Atlantic’s LCC transatlantic flights are a welcome alternative for frequent travelers seeking to save money. Its success will depend on how well it manages costs and attracts customers. But it has one advantage Norwegian did not: limited competition in transatlantic flying from Gatwick. That gives it a better chance of picking up budget-conscious travelers looking for a deal to and from London.
Bottom line
Norse Atlantic is set to expand its US reach with the addition of four new budget-friendly routes from London Gatwick. The airline hopes to capitalize on the post-pandemic surge in travel demand by offering transatlantic flights at competitive rates, after securing cheap leases on Dreamliner 787s during the pandemic. The new destinations include Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and Boston, with economy return fares starting at £430 including taxes.
With the addition of these four new routes, Norse Atlantic will serve more US cities than any other airline from Gatwick. The airline’s expansion at Gatwick and focus on budget-friendly transatlantic travel mean its worth a look for anyone looking for bargains to and from London this summer.
